Living in the manifestation of her name, Joy Buckner is an innovative educator and confidence-builder, an exuberant presenter, and a catalyst for moving people beyond their fears to better their practice.
Joy Buckner is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Buckner Education, with over twenty years of experience in the industry. A native of Denver, Colorado, Joy has served communities in the USA, UK, and the UAE as a Teacher, Literacy Specialist, and Reading Interventionist, Instructional Coach, Director of Teaching & Learning, and EdTech Executive.
Joy is an expert in curriculum and instructional design, a certified teacher and leader trainer, facilitator, and school inspection specialist. Charismatic and full of positive energy, Joy brings her caring approach to the work she does with teachers, leaders, and industry experts around the globe.
“I’m sure I was the student that my teachers wished would be sick so they could have a break. I struggled with my schooling from a young age and acted out as a result. Simply stated, I hated school, and in my early years found little success. To look back now I doubt any of my elementary teachers would have predicted that I would dedicate my life to education.”
Being diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 12 was the most pivotal and defining moment of Joy’s life and the catalyst to her 20 plus year career as an educator. The lack of emotional and academic support was traumatic. Though she pushed through these adversities Joy realized she was not alone in the challenges she faced. Driven by this knowledge and passion to help others Joy started on her journey to become the type of educator for her students that she didn’t have for herself.
Through the creation of Buckner Education and the partnerships, projects, and initiatives championed by the company, Joy is working tirelessly and pushing limits to explore how the consultancy can bring individuals from industries that historically have not belonged to the same educational space to join the conversation and ensure that all voices are heard and expertise shared to usher in a new way of approaching the manner in which we educate.
Joy firmly believes that educational success is a communal effort and learning is a lifetime journey rooted in quality training and access to learning opportunities and exposure. She rejects the belief that education that takes place in traditional settings should be the norm. Through Buckner Education Joy wants to push the boundaries of what education looks like, and facilitate learning that spans from the school building to boardrooms, from the stage to asynchronous learning modules, and takes place in learning environments that support learner’s creativity, enable collaboration and provide a space where everyone is comfortable learning.
How many people have served in senior leadership roles around the world at American, UK, and IB curriculum schools? Joy Buckner is certainly among the few.
